“THE CANDID VOICE”
Saw the movies “Pink Panther” and “Poseidon” in the last couple of weekends. Pink Panther was quality fun and Steve Martin has done a splendid job. Poseidon, well, should have been renamed as “Upside down”! The whole concept was mentally challenging. How will it be if the environment around you is vertically inverted? The movie was non-stop action. But beyond a certain point, I started losing interest. Didn’t impress me much.
I am racing against time to complete the book “The Da Vinci Code”, so that I can watch the movie with the novel in my mind. I missed out the experience of watching a movie after reading the novel/book with “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy. Anyway, I started reading the book on monday night and am half-way through. Man, I love the mystery presented and the way it unfolds. Add to the mystery some dark concepts, Controversial revelations and the elements of the genius Da Vinci, you have a perfect recipe for a great novel…
I want to watch the movie for the experience (Movie-after-novel), the beautiful actress Audrey Tautou
and ofcourse the oscar-studded Tom Hanks. Of course, the movie will not have any suspense for me..but that’s fine.
Eagerly waiting for the weekend to arrive…
ps: btw, “THE CANDID VOICE” (the title of the post) is an anagram of “THE DA VINCI CODE”

Whoa, see now we like posts like these. The title did get me thinking?
I strongly believe that books out do movies anyday. The only movie till date that I could not point my finger at anything was Shawshank Redemption. The movie truly does justice to the book.(In humble opinion only)..Else, nothing beats reading the book.I read 3 of JK Rowlings books after watching all 4 films based on her novels.I still think the books are much much better than the movie.Oh and just cannot wait to watch Da Vinci Code, albeit after my exam next week.Is it being released in India at all after all the hue and cry?

Hey, am doing the reverse here. I stopped reading Da Vinci Code after a few chapters when I heard about the movie releasing soon… Didn’t want to spoil the fun of watching the movie!!

Hey Bharani…I’d read this one when it was the rage and I’d procured a hard-bound…but was disappointed with it overall. Personally, I reckon the story’s based on too many rather far-fetched claims and one wonders if the popularity was more due to obvious connotations of the topic than literary brilliance. The movie bombed at Cannes…just fyi

EU, I will agree with your view on books are better than movies. It is tough to bring the words in to life in big screen. There are always expectations created and it’s tough to satisfy them too…The movie is indeed being released in India with a disclaimer and some scenes cut(?). Unfortunately hyderabad has to wait till May 26th or June 2nd for the release…
Anuj, we will go together if possible…i will be free in weekends…atleast I want to be
Vineeth…surprise visit…honoured my blog…:) will try to call you…drop me your phone number…
Radhakrishnan, I know…I just want to give a try
Anoop, yeah man, heard that movie is a flop..but am going to watch it anyway…so how are things with you…joined the work? am not able to read blogspots..as they are blocked in office..will catch up with your entries soon…

The book is in the Ok to above average category. It was quite a letdown for me after all the hype. The movie might just ride on the opposition to its release and all the criticism surrounding it and make some good money. The movie might just turn out to be better than the book as such.

The movie last week is quite okay.. can watch it once.. i saw it in russian..
i got everthing, as i have read the novel.. but its better to let down the expectations…as sometimes that may lead to disappointment…
one good point about the movie is, you can see all the places mentioned in the novel in your screen, which gives you a feel of experiencing the incidents..

Enjoyed the book - in fact - re-read it after seeing the movie. The book definitely is better than the movie and a lot of people who saw it did not really get the whole concept of the plot. Naturally the book can go into more detail than any movie ever could. I had to explain parts of it to the people who went with me to see it. I was the only one who had read the book. Really loved the anagram - that is ingenious and very DaVinci.
