Diary 9th May 2005

The weekend was busier than the weekdays! A marketing case study and an economics assignments took centre-stage for past 72 hours.

The marketing case study was on Gillette Indonesia and its plan to penetrate and develop the blade market. It was interesting to read the case. It was easy to come up with all sorts of qualitative comments. But what mattered was to justify those suggestions quantitatively, which was a quite tough…To add, the group dynamics played its part. With ideas pouring in and disagreements and arguments happening most of the time, it was quite time-consuming to come to a consensus. I am sure this will improve as we move along. I am pretty confident about my study group in improving this aspect..

Just one week into the term, and I am talking quite a few jargons already. The concepts in economics, marketing, statistics and accounting are all highly intertwined. Sometimes, I think I am studying marketing, only to find that the subject is economics later. I am sensing a change in perspective while reading some of the business news in newspapers and websites. I can correlate with what has been taught so far to an extent. If the same level of knowledge influx and perspective change happens for next 1 year, definitely all of us will be much different persons after one year, equipped and ready to take on the business world.

  1. You nailed it on the head, previous experience has said ( alums ) that the first group projects are the most difficult to get through. There is chaos and everybody wants to be stud in the group. Things will change for the better in most groups. I can also start identifying definite patterns in group dynamics.

on a more serious note, do you think we ( all ISB student bloggers ) should have a small session with communications or asa office to discuss what we can and cannot reveal/broach in our blogs ( this is a general precautionary measure and is no way related to our previous posts ) ?

You are keeping the Ramki / Raja trend alive and can assure you that your blog would be a great source of news for future applicants. Keep up the good work.

  2. I did agree with Prof Bubna’s comment that work expands to fill the time available (Parkinson’ Law). Luckily our group had no dynamics issues, and we had really chummy discussions. Grades are of course another matter!

But, this time around some wonderful bloggers in ISB, and as I see they are updating regularly, which the previous people couldn’t manage to..So, I am happy..

Your point of asking for clarification is very relevant..We will do it..

  5. Amit, My group had some wonderful discussions, but on couple of occasions we had heated discussions..But this heated discussions has brought us closer..My point was that, we spent lot of time in arriving to consensus, which we have identified as weakness..In the end, we did complete our case study!

…Nice to know that you had highly productive meetings..
